Kristen Brennan Grief Therapist

Welcome to Thereafter Therapies

Grief is a normal process when faced with loss. Grieving is a verb - it requires 'doing' and deserves a space where you can do so authentically, where you can drop the mask and be as you are while you explore the complexities of loss and find what works for you as you move forward.

The aim is not how to stop the ocean (that would be impossible) but rather, finding ways to navigate the tides.

''Our grief may stay the same size, but slowly, life begins to grow bigger around it'' - Lois Tonkin.

One on one counselling sessions are available to you (18+) from the comfort of a home-based practice in the gorgeous little seaside town of Jacobs Well (Northern Gold Coast). Online appointments are also available at your convenience, Australia wide. A FREE WELLNESS BAG is given upon first session.

Look forward to connecting with you and supporting you as you are learning to carry the complexities of loss while moving forward in a way that is meaningful to you.

Connection and Compassion, always.

Kristen.

My special area if interest is grief and loss, as it is such a universal part of the human experience that each of us will go through at one point or another. Each and every one of us experiences grief differently. Your experience is as unique as your fingerprint!

You will be met with an approach that is person centered, meaning you have all of the answers inside you. You are the map creator with a supportive traveller with you to help you look at the map.  You will be in a non-judgmental, empathic space conducive for growth, healing and exploration of the inner skills you already have.  During your counselling sessions a number of modalities and techniques may be used (Lived experience, Mindfulness-Based Therapies, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Somatic/ Holistic Wellness and Expressive Therapies or Compassion Focused Therapies) depending on best approach.

Your Counsellor

About Me

Hello ! I'm Kristen. Registered counsellor,

Wife, Mother of two busy little boys, chaser of spontaneous beach days in our gorgeous seaside town of Jacobs Well. My passion is connecting, be it to myself during my daily yoga, with loved ones over a cheese board or with clients during sessions.

My area of special interest is grief and loss. Grief deserves to be witnessed, to be approached with whole hearted compassion and to be normalised (we need to talk about it and through this we can educate ourselves so that when it comes we have an understanding of our experience). The courage it takes to share deep experiences of pain continues to be something I am in awe of.

With a background in business management, the daily running of multiple businesses has given me a strong foundation in working with a range of stakeholders in order to achieve goals.

My direction soon changed after experiencing my own grief after the sudden loss of my younger sister.

My own experiences of grief has made me realise a greater need of grief education and support within our society.

With the right support life can become a little lighter. I look forward to supporting you.

Connection and compassion, always.

Kristen.

Please reach us at thereaftertherapies@gmail.com  if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Counselling is essentially 'talk therapy' and is free of judgment to explore your feelings and thoughts. Counselling helps give clarity, perspective and guides you to live the life you desire. You have the answers within you. Come as you are.

We abide by our confidentiality policy, which will be explained in our first session together.

Being a registered ACA counsellor means you can be assured that I keep up to date with ongoing professional development and supervision. Additionally, that I work within adherence of codes of conduct and practice to help deliver a safe and ethical  practice.

Investment ; $85 for a 60 minute session.

Thereafter Therapies is not apart of the government Medicare rebate system.

No referrals are needed to access counselling, simply book an appointment. No waitlist.

Grief ebbs and flows and as such, you are welcome to do the same. Come for one or as many sessions as you like. We can chat about this in our first session too.

Everyone's situation is unique and so your needs will be too.

For non-grief counselling, generally, it takes more then one session, the average is six sessions. However, you are at the centre of your care and the choice is yours entirely, you can choose to attend weekly, fortnightly or monthly. In general, we come to completion of sessions when you have achieved your goals (which is reviewed during the process) .
